EU Law Enforcement Agency Seizes Coin Mixing Service Platform Cryptomixer
BlockBeats News, December 1st. According to Coindesk, the European Union (EU) law enforcement agency Europol announced on Monday that a coordinated law enforcement operation conducted in Zurich has successfully dismantled the cryptocurrency mixing service Cryptomixer, allegedly used by cybercriminals for laundering illegal Bitcoin.
This enforcement action took place from November 24th to 28th with the collaboration of Swiss and German police under the coordination of Europol, resulting in the seizure of three servers, the Cryptomixer.io domain, over 25 million euros (approximately 29 million dollars) worth of Bitcoin, and more than 12 terabytes of data.
Officials stated that since 2016, Cryptomixer has assisted in laundering over 1.3 billion euros worth of Bitcoin. Its extended settlement window and randomized fund allocation model have made it an ideal tool to obscure the proceeds of crime.
